Turf 4 Circularity (T4C) is a European project funded by the European Union's LIFE Programme (Grant Agreement No. 101113745). The consortium brings together Spanish partners (Green World Compounding S.L., the University of Castilla-La Mancha and Espama Comunicación S.L.) and German partners (Polytan GmbH and HAURATON GmbH & Co. KG), working together to promote a more sustainable and circular model for the artificial turf sector.

The project is developing an integrated artificial turf system for football pitches based on innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. The T4C system combines an elastic layer (Flexitan with a low-CO₂-footprint PU binder), an artificial turf carpet (LigaTurf Cross R), a microplastic-free performance infill (Ecolastene) and an advanced plastic and microplastic retention system (SPORTFIX CLEAN).

The solution eliminates intentionally added microplastics, reduces the presence of potentially hazardous substances and promotes the use of sustainable, recycled and recyclable materials, supporting circularity throughout the field's entire life cycle. In addition, it meets the required technical performance criteria in accordance with FIFA Quality Pro (2015 & 2024) and EN 15330-1 standards (LigaTurf T4C GT 252 C ACF 77 system with Ecolastene certified with the FIFA Quality label).

LIFE T4C represents a step towards the sports fields of the future, combining innovation, sustainability and circular economy.

T4C LigaTurf Ecolastene

Artificial turf system LigaTurf Cross R performance with Ecolastene, a high-performance infill made from recycled PE, recyclable at the end of its service life and free from microplastics. Certified by external laboratories and validated according to the FIFA 2024 Quality Pro Label requirements. The solution integrates bio-based PE fibres, a primary backing with more than 50% recycled content, and a high-efficiency ISCC-certified Polytan PU coating, designed to reduce the carbon footprint. A system designed to maximise circularity, performance and sustainability through TurfGuard technology.

SPORTFIX CLEAN

SPORTFIX CLEAN is an innovative drainage and filtration system designed to retain microplastics from artificial turf fields, such as SBR rubber, EPDM granules and synthetic fibres. Its channel, manufactured from 100% recycled compound and equipped with CARBOTEC filter substrate, captures particles down to 0.45 µm, preventing their release into the environment. Installed around the field perimeter, it combines linear drainage and surface filtration in a single solution, suitable for both new installations and existing facilities. With cleaning efficiency above 97%, it reduces maintenance requirements and extends service intervals.

T4C EL 25

Flexitan Elastic is a sustainable elastic layer made from Flexitan, a recycled PE-based material with a specific formulation for sports applications and other recreational spaces such as playgrounds, indoor sports facilities and multi-purpose areas. It can be applied in situ through planoMatric technology for large surfaces, creating a continuous layer that avoids critical points and adapts to ground irregularities, or supplied as prefabricated panels. The solution combines Flexitan with an ISCC-certified Polytan polyurethane, reducing 1.5 kg CO₂/kg compared to fossil-based polyols. Its heat-free application enables energy savings and lower emissions.
